Old finish removed or revived ?

Stripping by a special system of approved chemicals is offered. This allows us to tackle high volumes of even the most intricate or delicate designs.

Hand stripping is sometimes appropriate. Caustic stripping is also offered on a small scale. Many antique finishes can be lost in a stripping shed but an experienced restorer can bring finishes  back to life by using special revivers.

New finishes applied.

Today's French polishes are more durable than our ancestors could have believed. Sprayed lacquers offer a whole range of tough finishes that can be packed and delivered within hours of completion. Wax is still appropriate in many cases.

Horological Restoration.

Clock movements cleaned, serviced and regulated. Estimates are provided for any repairs required. Barometers also restored and calibrated.

Polishing on Site - a testimonial from a satisfied customer.

As part of two year refurbishment in the centre of York we were tasked with re-using the existing 15 year old beech faced solid doors in the buildings.

It was key to the environmental credentials of the project that we could guarantee a finished product that did not detract aesthetically from the new finishes elsewhere on the refurbishment. At that time we were un-sure how good a finish we could get on the existing doors as many of them had seen far better days. At this point we contracted John to carry out polishing and repairs to our first completed phase. Both ourselves and more importantly our client were delighted with the results. John has worked on the project for the past two years with consistently excellent results.

John also presents the right image to a client which is very important when completing refurbishment works as there are many occasions when interaction with the building users is inevitable.

We are approaching the end of the project now and I would not hesitate to use Johns skills on future projects.
